About Canterbury
Canterbury is a historic Cathedral city which lies on the River Stour in Kent, South East England. It became a place for pilgrimage after the Archbishop of Canterbury, Thomas Becket was murdered at the Cathedral in 1170. The pilgrimage became the theme of Chaucer's 14th century classic The Canterbury Tales. Today Archbishop of Canterbury is the senior bishop and principal leader of the Church of England and symbolic head of the worldwide Anglian Communion. Canterbury Cathedral is one of the most visited sites in England drawing in one million visitors a year which contributes greatly to the city's economy.
