Why Use a Luton Gritting Service
Luton is based in a fairly central position of the UK, in the county of Bedfordshire. Close to London, Cambridge, Bedford and Northampton, it benefits from a relatively sheltered inland position. Whilst it may not receive as much snow as more northerly UK cities, or as much precipitation as the west of the UK, temperatures often drop below freezing in the autumn and winter months, leading to ice and snow forming. It is during these times, from October through to April, when companies have a responsibility to put in place an adequate winter maintenance programme to make car parks, walkways and all public access areas safe for all who use them.
This is where Ice Watch can help. Our Luton winter gritting service will give you complete peace of mind that staff and visitors are protected from painful accidents and injuries. Our comprehensive service ensures your business fully complies with current health and safety law helping you to minimise accidents and make safe walkways, car parks and communal areas. This will help to avoid damaging legal claims and costly staff absences that could damage your business' reputation and productivity. Our contract service also covers clients with up to £10 million public liability insurance, should they ever need it.

About Luton
The old milliners’ town of Luton in Bedfordshire has changed and grown in size considerably over the past few years. Once, it was the centre of the UK’s hat manufacturing industry, hence the nickname of its local football team “the hatters” and home to one of the largest car plants in the country. Now Luton has become an educational and transport hub with its own university, associated colleges and halls of residence as well as its own international airport. The university has attracted a large number of students to the area, many of whom live in and around the town centre and close to the university for lectures and the numerous entertainment complexes that have sprung up in the area. Also the airport attracts thousands of visitors to the town every year.
Luton is still home to Vauxhall’s commercial vehicle assembly plant which employs over 1000 people and many small to medium and large business headquarters, including those of the Whitbread brewery company, who own popular chains such as Costa Coffee, Premier Inn, Beefeater Grill and Brewers Fair. Only 35 miles North of London and with excellent transport links via road, rail and air, it is the ideal base for local, national and international business.
From Luton’s airport it is possible to fly direct to over 100 European and International destinations in 35 different countries including long hauls like Hong Kong, India, Israel, South Africa and Thailand as well as those destinations closer to home like France, Spain, Portugal and Greece. Luton’s connections on the ground are just as comprehensive. It is served by junctions 10, 10a and 11 of the M1 motorway which connects London to Leeds and has rail connections to the north, south, east and west.
Luton’s town centre is almost entirely pedestrianised. There are one or two roads which have been allocated to buses, taxis and the emergency services but those aside, it is block paved all the way from the impressive Town Hall to the University of Luton. This area of town is known as the Mall and is very popular among shoppers with a great many high street stores in evidence. It is currently undergoing further development and will soon rival the city centres of Nottingham and Leeds in its size and diversity.
